OVERVIEW
Bauan, a historic municipality in Batangas, traces its name to either “bauang,” meaning rugged mountain, or the garlic-related mix-up with the word “bawang.” Formerly a barrio of Taal, Bauan became one of the province’s earliest parishes in 1596 and later settled in its present location in Tulusan after several relocations. Over centuries, the town saw multiple separations as nearby municipalities branched off, shaping Bauan’s evolving identity. Despite challenges like the Taal Volcano eruption, Moro attacks, and wartime devastation, Bauan rebuilt through strong leadership and growing industries. Today, the town thrives with cultural pride, progress, and deep historical roots.
