OVERVIEW
Agoncillo, once a humble barrio of Lemery, became an independent municipality through the determination of leaders like Hon. Jacinto M. Mendoza and the support of local councilors. Its separation was formalized in 1949, when the town was renamed Agoncillo in honor of diplomat Don Felipe Agoncillo. From its original 11 barangays, it has grown to 21, symbolizing continuous development and resilience. Shaped by challenges during the Spanish, American, and Japanese eras, the town emerged stronger, driven by community spirit and hope. Today, Agoncillo stands as a thriving lakeside municipality enriched by history, heritage, and its close connection to Taal Lake.
