Showcasing the Masterpieces: Agoncillo’s 77th Anniversary Arko Making Contest

Explore the stunning Arko Making Contest entries for Agoncillo’s 77th Founding Anniversary! Discover how Agoncillo barangays united culture and sustainable art.

The Municipality of Agoncillo currently celebrated its glorious 77th Founding Anniversary, and the streets were brought to life by a vibrant display of community spirit, culture, and incredible craftsmanship! One of the most anticipated events of the festivities was the Arko Making Contest, where participating barangays transformed their main entrances into breathtaking works of art.

We had the opportunity to go around and photograph these magnificent arkos (arches). Before we dive into the gallery, let’s talk about what makes these structures so impressive.

Art Rooted in Sustainability and Culture

This wasn’t just about building the biggest arch; it was about storytelling and resourcefulness. According to the official guidelines set by the Office of the Mayor, the designs had to clearly reflect the culture, traditions, and identity of the Agoncillians.

Furthermore, the contest strictly encouraged sustainability. Barangays were tasked to minimize expenditures by utilizing recycled, indigenous, and locally available materials. The use of hazardous or non-biodegradable items was strictly prohibited! Looking at these arches, it’s amazing to see how ordinary materials like bamboo, woven palm leaves, coconut shells, recycled bottles, local flora, even beans and corn husks were transformed into architectural masterpieces.

The Stakes and The Criteria

With a massive total prize pool of Php 90,000 (including Php 35,000 for the Grand Champion!), the barangays brought their A-game. The panel of judges had a tough job evaluating the entries on March 26th based on these criteria:

  • Creativity and Design: 20%
  • Relevance to the Theme and Cultural Significance: 20%
  • Visual Appeal and Impact: 20%
  • Use of Indigenous and Recyclable Materials: 15%
  • Craftsmanship and Neatness: 15%
  • Safety and Structural Integrity: 10%

Here are the beautiful entries from the hardworking barangays.

🎉 A Celebration of Agoncillian Ingenuity

More than just a competition, the Arko Making Contest is a beautiful reminder of the bayanihan spirit. Neighbors, local artists, and barangay officials worked hand-in-hand late into the night to meet the installation deadline, proving that when the community comes together, beautiful things happen.

Congratulations to all the participating barangays for making Agoncillo’s 77th Founding Anniversary truly unforgettable.
