On July 6, 2024, the Magandang Agoncillo Art Workshop concluded with a grand graduation ceremony held at the V. Maligalig Legislative Building. This event marked the culmination of a comprehensive art program designed to nurture the creativity and artistic talents of Agoncillo’s youth.
The workshop, which began on June 27, 2024, was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Agoncillo under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Cinderella Valenton-Reyes. In partnership with BAGSIK (Batangueñong Grupo sa Sining at Kultura), the program provided young participants with valuable lessons in basic sketching, oil pastel, watercolor painting, and advanced art techniques.
Mayor Cindy Valenton-Reyes, who led the graduation ceremony, jokingly mentioned that the purpose of the Art Workshop was to keep kids off screens and devices. She expressed her hope that one of the participants might one day become a famous visual artist from Agoncillo, Batangas. She also delivered meaningful messages to the children about growing up with good deeds and being respectful to parents, elders, and everyone.
King Villena, BAGSIK Secretary, gave a heartfelt appreciation message to BAGSIK members who volunteered their time and skills to teach the children during the 10-day workshop. He also expressed gratitude to the town of Agoncillo for promoting art tourism and supporting such initiatives. BAGSIK is known for traveling to various towns and cities in Batangas to conduct free art workshops and promote art tourism.
Agoncillo’s Tourism Officer, Charlyn Anne Dela Luna, echoed the mayor’s sentiments and praised the efforts to keep children engaged in productive activities during the school break. She commended BAGSIK President Remo Valenton and volunteer art teachers Paul Danao, Roland Maranan, Jennifer Bermejo, and Nichard Calong for their dedication.
The ceremony was highlighted by the display of artworks created by the participants, which will remain on exhibit at the Legislative Building until July 12. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all graduates, and six outstanding artworks were selected by Mayor Cindy Valenton-Reyes, each artist receiving a cash prize of 500 pesos. BAGSIK member Roland Maranan personally handed out one of these prizes.
The success of the Magandang Agoncillo Art Workshop underscores the importance of community support in fostering artistic talent and providing constructive outlets for the youth. As Mayor Cindy Valenton-Reyes and the dedicated members of BAGSIK have shown, nurturing creativity not only enriches individual lives but also strengthens the cultural fabric of Agoncillo.
