Bright Lights and Big Smiles: Batangas City’s Pailaw 2023

The event also premiered Batangas City’s Christmas ID, featuring centenarians and beneficiaries of local government programs. Congressman Marvey Marino, Board Member Claudette Ambida, Vice Mayor Alyssa Cruz, City Council members, and department heads joined the festive occasion.

Batangas City’s Christmas celebration kicks off with a Pailaw event on November 14. Led by Mayor Beverley Dimacuha, the ceremonial lighting of the 45-ft Christmas Tree at Plaza Mabini marked the start of the festivities. The theme, ‘Diwa ng Paskong Batangueno: Ang Pista ng Pagmamahalan at Pagbibigayan’ (Spirit of Batangueño Christmas: A Festival of Love and Generosity), set the tone for the joyous occasion.

Highlights included the illumination of lanterns across the city, from City Hall to Batangas City Coliseum, P. Burgos, Rizal Avenue, EBD Bridge of Progress, and Bridge of Promise. Mayor Beverley treated children to a magical Christmas show featuring clowns and magicians, while Santa Claus and popular cosplayers like Spiderman and Wonder Woman delighted the young audience.

500 daycare children received loot bags, and the city provided free treats like cotton candy, ice scramble, fries, hotdogs, and ice cream. Musical performances by Musicam Sacram and the Lighter Side Movement added to the festive atmosphere.

Plaza Mabini shone with a beautiful Belen and decorations, earning the admiration of the Batangueño community. The city’s Christmas decorations will grace the streets until the celebration of the Sto Nino feast on January 16.
